Distinctions of Equity

 We often confuse culturally responsive teaching with social justice education or multicultural education. Both are important, but unlike culturally responsive education, they don’t focus on using the science of learning and the principles of collectivist learning practice to help struggling students grow their brain power.

That is why I created the Distinctions of Equity ™ chart – to help bust the misconception that these terms are interchangeable. Keep in mind – it isn’t a flowchart. You cannot get to culturally responsive teaching through multicultural education or social education alone.

Use it to ensure you have a deeper understanding of how each is different.
